she got her nails did

Somebody got her hair and nails did today.. And I managed to get the only existing shot of this poodle with bows in her hair!

Too bad her salon visits cost almost as much as mine! She should be good for a while now though!

yesterday

Yesterday I went to Arlington National Cemetery. My office was responsible for a remembrance ceremony there for fallen military medical personnel. I hadn't been there before and took the opportunity to take a few shots:

It was beautiful, sad and soothing all at the same time. Like the sign said, they were truly hallowed grounds.

GTMO BFF

"My favorite memories of GTMO involve coffee, wine, pizza roles and you. :-) Happy Wednesday."

Last night I got this text on my phone from my roomie in GTMO. When Maria moved into the adjacent "room" (more like space in the in hooch we inhabited) I was worried. She outranked me, she was Navy and we were going to work together. We ended up the best of friends and every morning we'd open the doors to the bathroom that separated our "rooms" and share a pot of coffee. Every night we'd sit on the boardwalk outside with one of those gallon jugs of cheap Sangria and a bunch of pizza rolls.

Her text message last night made my whole day!

spring flowers = crochet?

Spring is officially here! This morning it was warm enough for me to sit outside and have my morning cup of coffee and everywhere I looked things were blooming.

Like this tree full of little white blossoms starting to open:

All this spring weather and the pretty colors popping up everywhere have got me crocheting granny squares for a scheme I am mulling over in my skull.

Oh this is my favorite! Is this a tulip tree? It is so darn pretty! And the blossoms... the blossoms are as big as my fist!

I can hardly contain myself when I wake up in the morning to sunshine and flowers! In the evening I work on these little buggers and wonder if my project will work out the way I see it in my head.

And well, I just can't help but post one last gratuitous shot of those gorgeous blossoms!

Happy Spring!

life is hard

"Here I am, sitting here.... looking pretty... with my ball..."

"Hey wait! Where's that Emily-lady?"

"Still reading that book? Even with all this cuteness on your knee?"

"That girl doesn't know what she's missin! I'll just lie here in plain sight and look pitiful..."

A day in the life of Beulah!

top 'o the mornin

Happy St. Patrick's day! Although I forgot all about it earlier this morning (and was wondering why the heck everyone else in the office was wearing green) I think I'll celebrate with some Irish brew tonight :)

reading through the stack

What's been happening around here these days? A whole lot of what you see in the photo... reading, sipping hot beverages and watching the rain. It suits my mood these days. I love when I can just sit down and get involved in a book and well, just forget about the rest of the world for a bit!

love in the mail

I'm not gonna lie, the past few weeks have been kind of rough here in Emilyland. Seems like 2011 is shaping up to be a year of big changes and hard choices.

Which is why I was so happy to receive this package from my father last night. It made "home" feel just a little closer...

I can't wait to make some of the tons of German goodies he managed to pack in that box, but my very favorite part of the whole thing was this:

My favorite flower!

umbrellas and shawls

Like I said, it's raining cats and dogs out today. Luckily, my brand-spankin-new umbrella is up for the challenge!

Peeking out from underneath it this morning I was reminded of this knitting pattern: the Stripe Study Shawl by Veera Valimaki...

Cool huh? I think I know what my next project is going to be!

thursday

Here's a little glimpse of my morning. The rain outdoors meant more time to read and cuddle with Beulah on the couch.

great success

May I present... my first successful sweater!!

Excuse the less-than-studio-quality photos... it's not easy to take pics of yourself with one hand! This is the Oatmeal Pullover design by Jane Richmond. I was a bit skeptical about it, as it was my first sweater and the pattern called for Lion Brand yarn, but it turned out perfectly! I'm pretty happy about the whole situation and plan to get some use out of it before it gets too warm here (hopeful thinking...).

spring??

I snapped these shots this morning as Beulah and I took our morning walk. My favorite flowers! They made me smile :)

i need therapy

It's finally happened. It was only a matter of time, really. This morning I finally gave into my urges and purchase this rhinestone-encrusted, fru-fru old lady pin. And I love it.

The floodgates have been opened. Even as I type I have another window open to Etsy where I have searched with the keyword "poodle." There's no turning back. You can't talk me down from this ledge. I won't listen to reason. Soon enough I will be that girl, the one who has a collection of poodle paraphernalia. And it all started with this poodle pin.

waiting for spring

I'm officially tired of Winter. So tired, in fact, that I've had to start some wishful Spring knitting. Maybe a cardigan in a pretty green will help me be patient while Spring takes its own sweet time lollygagging on its way here!

I sure hope so!
